Feeling Cheated with apple care+ and Iphone "Find my Iphone" feature.
I am a student of University of
Colorado, Boulder. I was in Chicago for my Spring break and I lost my iPhone XS
on 28th March 2019. I boarded a cab at 10 pm and was watching the
photos on my iPhone XS. Then after de-boarding the cab at Princeton Ave, I
realized that I had left my iPhone in the cab. I tried calling the driver, but
he didn't receive my call. After 15 minutes I got a call back from the driver
and he asked his passenger sitting behind to look for the phone. The passenger
said there wasn't any phone. I quickly tracked my phone from find my iPhone,
but it was in offline mode, then after
half an hour it went online and I could trace the location as East 63rd
street Chicago, so I enabled lost mode on the phone and sent a lost message
that “the iPhone has been lost, please
call me at 3126******” but it again went offline. Fortunately, I took a screenshot
when it was online.
The lyft driver confirmed that he
dropped the other passenger at the same location as the one showing on find my
iPhone. Since it was a dangerous area,
notorious for mugging and theft, I did not go to trace my phone there. So, I
just waited for my new trusted number to get activated and here I tried filing
a claim and it got rejected and the reason they gave was that “Find my iphone”
was off! How could I track its location just after I lost it?
As instructed by one of the Assurant’s
representative I sent out a mail to their Pennsylvania office along with the
screenshot of my icloud account showing my phone as live at that location and
also a screenshot of chat with the Lyft driver confirming that he dropped off
the next customer to the location where I could trace it. But still no response.
I called their customer support again to ask what was going on and they said
that they cannot do anything about it and the corporate office may take another
30 days to review my case Now I know for a fact that they will not give me any
positive response and what I have learnt from the blogs of hundreds of victims
of this scam, they will close the file after 30 days and say that nothing can
be done now. I don’t understand why such a business giant as Apple would let Assurant
destroy their image.
Moral of the story is that I want
what I was promised when I bought the Iphone and apple care+. Please don’t make
me regret my decision of going with apple!
