Deleted contact showing up in spotlight search

Hi There,

I have deleted a contact from my phone, I have also followed the procedure to go in to messages and delete them from recents, however when i use the global search the one you swipe down to search the whole phone and type in this contacts name it comes up with ''call (persons name)'' when i click it it then calls them and there doesnt seem to be an option to delete this.

I have also tried wiping the call history, restarting the phone etc.

The problem comes from the Phone app, even thought switching off the search for phone app it wont delete the shortcut as I can easily turn it back on and see the number. How to permanently delete the suggestion, why is the Edit button grayed out? We should be able to delete the suggestions.

any ideas?

Thanks.

Hello samy32,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I completely understand wanting to remove a contact and not seeing it in Suggestions through Spotlight. You've reached the right place to get assistance.

Here're some steps that can help:

1. Even if the contact is not displaying in contacts, the contact itself can still be attached to the account. If it's iCloud, follow the steps to be sure it's completely removed: iCloud: Delete a contact in iCloud

If you are using any other account for contacts like Google or Outlook, be sure to check the respective websites to be sure they aren't syncing to the iPhone.

2. If you have the contact mentioned in any other app, Siri and Suggestions may also see it. You can turn this off by going to Settings > Contacts > Siri & Search, then turn off Find Contacts in Other Apps.

Best regards.
