Using Spotify on Apple Watch

I recently purchase an Apple Watch series 3 mainly to use when I am walking. I have a walking playlist on my iPhone that is downloaded to use without internet. But the only way that I can use it on my watch and not carry my iPhone seems to be to buy a separate program to convert my playlist to use on the Apple Watch? The reason that I bought the watch was to be able to travel lighter without my iPhone. I have read several articles that say that I can sync the playlist on my iPhone with my Apple Watch. But I cannot figure out how to do this. Does anyone know how to make this happen?

It is possible to use the Apple Watch to listen to music from Apple Music. You can store music from Apple Music on the Watch or stream it if you have a cellular model. (More info here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204691)

In regards to Spotify, my understanding is that their Watch app allows you to use it as a remote for your iPhone. You’ll have to take any problems with the app to Spotify.
