Videos crashing in iTunes

I have a peculiar problem with videos crashing in iTunes.

I have Windows 10. It is completely up to date.

The PC has iTunes V 12.9.4.

When I try to play videos that I've downloaded onto the laptop, the video crashes. Very oddly, if I stream a movie which has not been downloaded, it works fine. I try removing the problem video, right clicking on it, and picking "mark as unwatched." Yet still if I try to play it, it crashes.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. When reinstalling right click on the downloaded setup file and use run as administrator. It may also help to temporarily disable any non-Microsoft anti-virus.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, or want to revert to an older version if the current one won't work properly for you at the moment. Links to the most recent builds are now at the bottom of the page.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

Yes, I'm suggesting you reinstall the application, and if the problem persists reinstall the previous build that worked properly for you. In either case your library will remain untouched though in some cases you might need to revert to a pre-upgrade copy of the database.

See Move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Community. If you keep a proper backup of your library then transferring to a new computer is simply a matter of restoring your backup to your chosen destination. There should be nothing to import or reconstruct.
