Audio Output in Final Cut Pro X

I have a Mac Pro running Final Cut Pro 10.4.6 connected to a sound craft signature 12 MTK running studio monitors out of the main outs. When I play music out of logic, youtube, iTunes, etc. the music is routed through my mixer and out through my studio monitors, BUT when I play audio through Final Cut, it won't play through my speakers. I've looked everywhere to try to change my audio output, but I can't find anything. The only place that would remotely let me change the audio output is under preferences---> Playback ---> A/V Output. Unfortunately, this is linking Audio and video together, so it only gives me options to choose my monitors. Is there any way to change audio and video separately - To route my audio out of my mixer and my video out of my monitor? Seems kind of silly that they wouldn't create a way to make that happen. Thanks!

Mac Pro, macOS 10.14

I was NOT talking about "AV Output".

I was talking about regular system audio output.

Are you saying that if you select your mixer in System Preferences->Sound->Output, then FCP X is not playing audio to it? That is very surprising.

If you select AV output to some of your HDMI monitors, the sound will go along with it.

That is what is supposed to happen, and I now think that is what Tom was saying all along, and (as usual) he was right.

My take was that you did not (at least at the beginning) want to use AV Output.

If you DON'T use AV output, you should be able to get the audio to play on your mixer, and set the Viewer(s) to show on a monitor of your choice (Window->Show in Secondary Display->Viewers).

I sometimes connect my mac to my living room tv using HDMI, and I still get to choose the audio output right there from the menu bar.

This is what I have now, on my MBP (the iMac is connected in target mode, and no tv at the moment).

I can play video on the iMac screen, and the audio still comes out of my MBP speakers. The same also works for the tv (though that is not what I usually want, it does work).
