Macbook Pro not Turning on, CPU getting extremely warm

I have a 2013 Macbook Pro 15" that I just brought out of storage. Had no SSD, so I replaced it with a new one. When I turn the machine on, the fans power up, but no screen action at all. Reset the SMC several times, no luck. Does not show anything when connected to an external display. The CPU gets very hot when powered on, so the board is getting power. Granted, I have not been able to install an OS on the machine, but I have still not gotten the grey screen with a flashing question-mark folder. Any ideas what might be wrong? GPU or CPU? Has no water damage history and internally looks fine. Thanks!

Try resetting both the SMC & PRAM back to back. Make sure to hold the PRAM reset for a full minute so it performs the reset at least three times. If you pay attention during the PRAM reset you may notice the backlight come on briefly which may appear as a slightly less black screen. It occurs about every 15-20 seconds.

Remove the SSD and see if you get the blinking folder with question mark. Did you replace the SSD with an Apple SSD, an OWC Aura or did you use the Sintech adapter with a standard M.2 SSD?

This model had known GPU issues.

Hello seankerns and welcome to Apple Support Communities.

I see you are having some issues with booting up a 2013 MacBook Pro which has an SSD that has been replaced.

There is some great info in this resource that should prove helpful.

In this case you'll want to access macOS Recovery over the Internet and you'll find instructions for doing that in the final section of that article.

Cheers.
