Safari won't print
This morning, as I tried to print a webpage I get an error sound and it won't print.
I tried both command+P and File...Print.
I restarted the computer, no success.
Ant ideas?

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. Please post back on whether or not this worked. Also try the Safe Mode. Please post back on whether or not this worked.

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown. If the log won’t post, try posting it in Pastebin and provide a link in a reply Pastebin
Same issue for me too. Selecting File --> Print produces an error sound and the print dialog does not show up.
Some web pages have no problem and the print dialog does show up, others produce the error sound.
Right clicking on web page and selecting Print Page does work for pages that selecting File --> Print does not work.
Have the same problem. Not clear why some websites work as usual and others don't. There is another thread entitled "Unable to print Web pages since Safari 12.1 update" on the Forum which has another workaround which works for me.
Set safari in preferences to remember open pages. Then when you get the bong close Safari, then immediately reopen it and the offending page will be on screen. At that point do the normal print or 'save to PDF', and the print or save will work one time.
Hopefully Apple knows about the problem and will fix it in the next update, either in Safari or the OS.
Updated macOS to Version 10.14.5 on the weekend. Now there does not seem to be a problem. Tried with about 20 pages including pages that didn't work before. I will update if I run into the problem again.
HI Folks,
This is a persistent problem with Safari (I have 12.1.1). With all the work around suggestions, I have one. "Apple.. FIX SAFARI". I have been using Firefox to print web pages with fewer problems.
However, these does seem to be a problem with certain "frame" constructions that are recent. Some web pages, no matter which browser you use, won't print. I have found that if you use Right Click on the web page and Print, you will have better success than the other options.
I called the Apple Store when I got my new iMAC and was told its a problem with the Safari release with Mojave. Apple knows about the problem... but we are still waiting.
Use the PDF Method to Print a Site.
Try This: Export this as a PDF Document, then Print the PDF Document.
Using Safari, Go To: File Menu > Click: Export as PDF > Type: the Name and Location > Click: Save
Next, open the PDF document, and print it.
Eric,
I set up a new admin. Same issue when printing. Some websites will print with no problem, but some websites give the error sound and won’t print.
I tried a new print option. On the webpage, I right-clicked and was able to print.
And, If I copy the URL and open it in a new tab, I can print with the command+P and File Print.
I tried Safe Mode. Same issue, but instead of hearing the error sound the screen flashed.
Try this as a test.
Create a new folder.
Save the print job to that folder.
Select the print job in that folder.
File > Print.
Does it work?
Are any of your ink cartridges empty? Your printer might have the setting to require all cartridges to have ink in them.
Having the exact same issue. No displayed error, no print dialogue box. Just a 'bonk' sound and nothing. Same sites print in Chrome without issue. Tried adjusting all manner of pop-up blocker settings-- no resolve.
Same thing happens to me: just an error sound when I try to print either using command/p or File/Print. It only happens in Safari. I CAN print if I open the same page in the Chrome browser, and I can print from other applications.
From my observation it is related to the latest OS release. I say that because I just updated my iMac to the latest version and it's not printing now from Safari when it did print from Safari before the update. That leads me to think it's a bug in the update.
Again, I think it's solely isolated to printing from Safari. Any suggestions on how to fix this? It's very inconvenient. Thanks.
We just acquired a new MacBook Pro. Safari does not respond at all to the print command. I launched Firefox, it it prints just fine. Looking at this and other help thread suggests nobody at Apple can figure out how to make the Apple-resident browser print function work. I understand the work-arounds, but good grief.
Thank you rskern! This worked! The right-click thing, which was new to me. Heaven knows why this problem began out of nowhere, since printing was not previously an issue. But at least until Apple solves this, which based on prior experience will probably be never, I am in your debt for your work-around. Many many thanks.
Deborah
Dominic23,
This didn't work. It saved as an HTML and here's a picture of the results of this page, saved.
