iphone 7+ unable to sync to MacBook Pro early 2011

i have MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011, 2.3 GHz i5, 4 GB) that currently is running iOS Sierra 10.12.6.

I was trying to sync my iphone 7+'s (running iOs 12.2) music library to my MacPro.

The iTunes cannot read my phone and asked me to restore it.

Any idea why this is? What should I do if I don't want to restore my phone ?

Is it because my MacPro's iOS is not compatible to my iPhone's iOS?

Is it correct that early 2011 MacBook Pro will not be able to update to iOS 12? I am fine with this, but

it would be a problem for me if I cannot backup my iPhone to my McPro.

Macbook Pro is not a Mac Pro and the operating system is referred to OSX or macOS depends upon which version you are running. Its definitely not IOS. Anyway check the iTunes version you have installed and it should be no less than 12.8 to be compatible with IOS 12.
