Macbook Pro Trackpad & Keyboard

If you booted into the Recovery Partition or Internet Recovery and the keyboard/trackpad weren't functioning you have a hardware problem and need to take it to a Apple Store or other authorized service center.

It sounds like the keyboard and trackpad do work under some conditions otherwise you wouldn't be able to reinstall the OS. Or did you use an external keyboard and mouse?
