There are posts in this forum which suggest that it used to be possible to select the Dvorak keyboard layout with a hardware keyboard in iOS, but I can’t see how to make this work on my iPad Pro with the Apple folio keyboard.
Is this currently possible?

When the keyboard is connected, you go to settings > general > keyboard and look for the Hardware Keyboard item. Over at the right edge for English, you can tap and choose the layout. Just select Dvorak instead of "automatic" or anything else.

these were all installed, but I deleted them one by one, testing in between, and they all seem utterly redundant. I'm touch typing with Dvorak using the iOS settings, which I didn't even know existed until you pointed them out.
Thank you so much! Your answer led me into the English (automatic) submenu, where I found the Dvorak option. However, I had to deinstall various third party utilities I'd installed (and paid for!) to get the iPad to convert the hardware keyboard to Dvorak layout.

Could you mention what those apps were which you had to deinstall? I had not heard of such a problem before, and it would be useful to know when helping others.

Yes, 3rd party keyboards from the app store cannot use hardware layouts. You probably did not need to remove them, but they serve no purpose, since you have to be using an Apple keyboard to get Dvorak in the Hardware Keyboard settings.
