how do i reformat a WD My Passport Ultra for my mac book air running the Mac os mojave

i have just bought a WD My Passport Ultra 1TB hard drive to use on my 2018 Macbook Air running the latest Mac Os Mojave System. up until now i have only used an Ipad Pro so I am still finding my way around this macbook. let alone how i go about reformatting this new external hard drive. can anyone advise me on reformatting this WDPassbook Ultra?

Open Disk Utility

Click on the View button and choose "Show all Devices"

You should see your WD Passport listed in the list, likely with some volume name indented below it.

Select the drive in the list (leftmost entry for the drive).

Click the Erase button and choose a desired format. macOS Extended (Journaled) is probably the best choice.

Do you need to use the drive on a Windows computer to share files? If so, use ExFAT.
