I have worked on EXCELL sheet on my MacBook Air and use the paintbrush to make adjustments. Where do I get the same information to select to do changes on my friend's Apple Computer?

MS Excel is not Numbers, and Numbers is not MS Excel.
In Numbers, the Format brush is o the right side of the screen, above the document window. Clicking it opens the Format Inspector, in which you can make changes to the format of the document, a Table, a Cell, the Text (in a cell or elsewhere, etc.
These may or may not be similar to the 'adjustments' you can make in an Excel workbook using the similarly identified tool.
What changes do you want to make?
