Signing into iMessage and Facetime on Mac

I have tried signing into both iMessage and Facetime on my MacBook Air yet every time i try, a message appears saying 'an error occurred during authentication' and so it doesn't let me sign in.

Unable to sign in to iMessage and Facetime on iMac (Catalina) I have tried for months to sign in to both iMessage and Facetime on Catalaina (and the previous OS) without success.
