Can't update Early 2011 Macbook Pro to High Sierra

Dug up my old macbook pro (early 2011) to give to my daughter. Ran the OS updates on it, cleaned it up. Then went to the app store to upgrade it to High Sierra. At which point, the app store tells me it's already "installed".

Funny - it doesn't look like High Sierra. It looks exactly like Mavericks.

Plus, when I run "About this mac", it reports the version as 10.9.5.

Tried El Capitan, but that wouldn't download - I suppose because it thinks I'm on High Sierra.

Anyone know a way to force it to reinstall?

Check your Applications folder for a large file (~5gB) called Install Mac OS X High Sierra. If there try installing from there, otherwise delete the file and try the download from the App Store again.
