Older Apple TV small black box) can't see iCloud Photos

I have an older Apple TV which is working fine but I can't seem to access photos in iCloud. I only seems to want to see Photo stream which I don't use now. Is this because it is an older version?

Any ideas would be helpful.

This support document says that you would need at least an Apple TV (4th generation) for the current way that iCloud Photos works.
