How do I select multiple files with the trackpad?

my 2016 Macbook Pro won't allow me to use a right click on the pad to select multiple files to drag, I have to use the Command or Shift keyswith one hand and tap/drag to select with the other, before dragging. Seems like on earlier OS's or trackpads, I could get a right click on a corner of the track pad with my thumb, then select multiple files with my other fingers, then drag to a different folder, all with one hand. Am I hallucinating, or was this possible, at one point?

Hold the command key to select more than one file.

Right, tried all of that. There used to be a feature that allowed the selection of either the left or right lower corner of the track pad to be chosen as a click and hold feature, as I recall, leaving the other fingers to scroll/swipe to select multiple files from a list. Unless I've missed something, none of the above allows a one handed selection of multiple files/documents in a folder, you have to hold the command or shift with the other hand to select the files in a swipe. I could be wrong, but I think I've tried all combinations. It used to work somehow, but maybe the haptic trackpads did away with that.

I just checked, and my above description is exactly how the Bluetooth trackpad works, and I thought that the trackpads on the MacBook Pro had the same function. I have the ability to hold down either the left lower or right lower corner of the trackpad, then manipulate files with my fingers on the main body of the trackpad, all with one hand. Maybe the trackpads in the laptops don't do this anymore, but I'm confident that at one point they did. My MacBook Pro is now three years old and out of warranty, so I don't think I'll waste time by asking tech support.

Thanks, it should do that, but it won’t. Maybe something about the sensitivity of the haptic trackpad. Also, I realized I described my laptop as a 2016 MacBook Pro, but it’s a 12” Macbook. Maybe that’s a less featured trackpad. My older apple Bluetooth trackpad does it, so I figured they all would. Guess I’ve spent enough time on this silly quest, thanks for the input.
