I tried to create a shared album in photos. none of the photos showed up and I don't see an album in the sidebar. I used to have shared albums in the sidebar, but they are gone. I can see some on my iPhone, but not in photos. I tried deselecting shared albums in iCloud and that didn't work.

Make sure you don't have the Shared items hidden in the sidebar:
I ended up at the genius bar. The problem was I had moved my photos library to an external drive. We created a second library to stay on the local hard drive just for shared albums and that fixed the problem. Thanks for your input.
