The built-in camera on my MacBook Pro keeps freezing

So this problem has been around for a while now and the problems keep changing.

I was using Skype a couple months before now and the camera suddenly stopped working.

At first, the camera seemed to be disconnected because under System Information, it was listed as 'no cameras found'.

Eventually, now it's reappeared there again as the usual Facetime HD camera, but whenever I open an app that uses the camera, whether its photo booth, FaceTime or Google hangouts on the browser, the camera freezes and the green light goes out.

I have no idea why it's doing this and I was hoping someone on here could help me out.

Thanks in advance!

So after I installed the combo update over it, the camera was gone again.

Then I performed an Onyx maintenance and restarted, which did cause the camera to reappear back again.

However, it still has the same problems of just constantly starting and stopping over and over. As in the green light flashes on and off and the image on FaceTime changes every now and then.

I'm starting to think it may be hardware related? But it seems unlikely because the camera worked fine before.

Can you verify your third party software is current and up to date compatible with your Mojave?

Is the Mojave 10.14 up to date? You can try re-installing the combo update on top of your existing macOS
