printer default settings set to landscape.

I have tried to delete my printer, as well as reset printer settings. and still when I print anything in safari or online the default print setting is landscape. some of my programs that I use online such as design space for my circuit machine, doesn't allow me to change the print setting to portrait before it prints. Any suggestions on how to get my default print settings to be in portrait? i vaguely remember a couple years ago being able to change the default setting to landscape, however it won't let me change it back to portrait now.
