Hi. Ive tried various fixes such as emptying the cache clearing extensions etc. I have reinstalled the operating system and this has speeded up safari opening but made no noticeable difference to its operation & the problem still remains. Both Chrome and Firefox browsers work without problem.

I would get rid of Trusteer. It doesn’t work well under Mac OS. Type uninstall in the search field.

Yes I did and contacted support to get the uninstall link.
Safari remained painfully slow on my account but as the other user's account had improved I created a new user for myself and this works fine. I will delete the old user account in due course. Thanks again for your help.

Many thanks for your help. I've got rid of Mackeeper but can't find the Trusteer Rapport or its uninstall app anywhere on the computer so I have been unable to deal with that.
Removing Mackeeper has made things a bit better but safari is still very slow.
I have tried another user on the same computer and Safari now works OK on their account .
Follow suggestions given here:
If Safari is slow, stops responding, quits unexpectedly, or has other issues - Apple Support
Backup first.
Update Wacom tablet driver if necessary.

Safari takes several minutes to open a web page and while doing so oth er apps become unresponsive until safari is finished its task
