How to stop Mac or iPhone from converting PNG to JPG

Whenever I AirDrop a PNG to my iPhone X and then email that photo, it suddenly has become a JPG. I'm not sure if the MacBook is converting it to JPG before it sends, or if the iPhone is converting incoming PNG to JPG; however, it's really annoying as I need it to remain in its original format! Any help would be greatly appreciated! My current work around is to just put the file into iCloud and then use the Files app on my iPhone.

I suspect that the gmail app converted it.

I opened a PDF in Preview, exported as a PNG. Opened the PNG in Preview and cropped it, saving now edited PNG. Then I used AirDrop to send the PNG to my iPhone. Finally, I opened the Gmail app and attached the PNG to the email. At this point I assume it has already become a JPG, because in my sent folder, it shows a JPG was attached.

After reading your post.

I transferred a .png to my iPhone 6 through AirDrop. Sent the same image to one of my email accounts. Opened the email on my MacBook Air. Saved the file to one of the folders in my Mac

It remained as .png

Can you please share the exact process that you are following?

You are correct. If I use Exif Viewer Lite to view the file, it's still a PNG after AirDrop; The Gmail app stupidly converts it to a JPG, possibly to make it a smaller file size.
