Home Button

My iPhone 8 home button is cracked and becoming very hot when the screen is off, yet when I am on the phone the home button isn't hot anymore. What do I do? Any recommendations?

The home button on my iPhone 6 turns when I press it, and it gets extremely hot. I’m not sure how this happened, but it is a hand me down phone. The button doesn’t work, and it spins when I put my finger on it. I’m not going to get the button fixed, only because it costs more then the resale value of the phone.
