how do I find my smtp server for setting up my email on my phone?

I have a new android phone and can't set it up for my iCloud email account, because I don't know the smtp server or imap4 server.

I had assumed one at least would iCloud.com . Our internet service is through att.net.

I can no longer view my mail settings as in years past, I think because the computers OS systems have streamlined all this...?

Any suggestions or helps?

You can access your email using

these settings:

As you are using a non-Apple app

to access your email or other  facilities, you are now required to

use an 'app-specific' password in place of your normal iCloud password.

In order to do this you need to set up two-factor authentication for

your Apple ID, and for this you need to have either a Mac running el

Capitan or above, or an iOS device running iOS9 or above.

If you are unable to set up

two-factor authentication you should set up 2-step verification and use

that to create an app-specific password (see link below) . Then go to

https://appleid/apple.com , select 'Password and Security'; click

'Generate an App-Specific Password' and follow the instructions. Once

you have the password, copy it and paste it into the password field in

the application instead of your usual iCloud password. You should also

keep a note of it (though you can generate a new one if required).

You will need to nominate a

'trusted device': any phone capable of receiving SMS messages. There

will be a 2-day wait before you can complete the process.


(A particular caveat (about

2-step only) - you will be issued with a 'Recovery Key' in case you

lose your 'trusted device'. Make sure to write this down and keep it in

a safe place; if you lose both it and your trusted device you will be

permanently locked out of your ID. You'd be surprised at the number of

people who've posted here that they've got themselves into just that

position.)

Thank you Kappy.


Your very first link was a good one, as it led step by step through the process, but unfortunately I still could not get through. I got this message: Setup incomplete. Cannot connect to server. Try again after checking network connection and entered info.


I have checked my wireless connection (phone is using it); I have entered all the steps in the link; I even tried it with the ports my phone suggested instead of the ones in the link, but no go.

My phone is an LG V20. Sigh. Wish I could get my email. I feel stupid.

Thank you very much for your so complete answer! I did not know about the two factor authentication!! What a circular mess it is. However fortunately I have a Mac with OS El Capitan on it and I was able finally to authenticate myself and then get various 6 digit codes into the requested slots which provided me with a key to my i-Cloud email! Hurray!

I feel weary from jumping through so many hoops, but also happy that I was eventually successful!
