I want to use a Bluetooth speaker as my audio output for FaceTime. The speaker is paired and connected but the audio doesn’t switch from the internal Ipad internal speaker

Hello Rschm419,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I understand you want FaceTime audio to go to your Bluetooth speakers. You've reached the right place for help.

Since we know the Bluetooth speaker is paired and working with other audio, also make sure call routing is set up. This will be in Settings > General > Accessibility > Call Audio Routing. Make sure it's set to Bluetooth.

Best regards.

Rschm419,

Thanks for the additional information regarding your iPad and checking those settings.

Let's narrow it down and focus on troubleshooting now:

1. Test another Bluetooth device to see if the same thing happens. Preferably a speaker.

2. Make sure the speaker is equipped to handle call audio profiles, specifically A2DP. You might have to refer to your speaker manual or reach out to the manufacturer: Bluetooth profiles that iOS supports - Apple Support

3. Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

4. Try these steps for reconnecting your Bluetooth accessory and starting again: If you can't connect a Bluetooth accessory to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If you're still having issues after all those steps and checks, reach out to the speaker manufacturer for further guidance or Apple Support here: Contact Apple Support

Enjoy your day.

Thanks. It’s working but I am not sure why.

It is JBL Flip4 so per its specs, it is compatible with the Apple operating system. To recount, it worked on the iPhone in all audio modes - Phone, media and FaceTime. It did not work on the IPad for FaceTime but worked for media output.

I rechecked and followed all the checks related to the Continuity of Devices. The thought being that I was WiFi calling on both devices via my phone’s cellular account. The only discrepancy was that one device was on the 5GHz channel of my internet feed the other on the 2.4GHz. I switch back and forth so I have no way of knowing how long that was was in place or that it even matters. Although I might add, I could never activate “call on other devices” under the cellular settings of the iPhone even though all the parameters were met. This was the first time I started working both devices. Up until this time I was solely focusing on the iPad where the issue was present.

I logged off my Apple account, rebooted and then re-logged in on each device in succession ( iPhone then iPad). Forgot the JBL speaker on each device and then re- discovered it on the iPad and it worked using the iPad FaceTime application with no lose of Bluetooth functionality in the other modes on both devices. “Happy Camper”

Thanks for your time and attention
