verification code sent...

I have 3 devices with 2 showing anywhere in Apple. 1st is iphone 7s plus with 12.2 (supposedly and is still at 12.1 in certificate trust store) and macbook pro with high sierra (this pc is crippled and is very rarely up and running) and a asus laptop with windows 10 pro. Now my 7+ has a name and has changed several times with it reflected in Apple website. My macbook pro doesnt show up anywhere but my windows pc does. It shows up as an old name of asus that hasn't been used in a yr. 1st question is when I sign on/in under the shopping bag icon on top menu bar what am I signing in to? I can sign in and access every option under bag except acct. which gives me another sign in option? 2nd is Apple sends verification code to "my devices" but I don't receive it on 7+ and I'm doing this on my windows pc, so where is it going? Thanks for your time

Hello timsnel52,

Thanks for getting back to me for continued support. With two-factor authentication, you have what are called trusted devices. A trusted device is one that you have already signed in to using two-factor authentication. If you are signed in on one of these trusted devices, a verification code can be sent to any of them. This may be what is causing you to not see the first code sent, as a different trusted device may be receiving it. Learn more about trusted devices and two-factor here: Two-factor authentication for Apple ID - Apple Support. You can view which devices you are signed in on, and considered to be a trusted device, by following the steps in this article: Check your Apple ID device list to see where you're signed in - Apple Support.

For the second concern regarding the trusted certificates in iOS, you did a great job updating your iOS to see if this would be resolved. Next, please review List of available trusted root certificates in iOS 12, macOS 10.14, watchOS 5, and tvOS 12 - Apple Support and let me know which certificate version number you have by going to Settings > General > About > tap on Certificate Trust Settings. Let me know if reviewing this article regarding certificates helps solve the issue.

Thank you for troubleshooting with me!

Hi timsnel52,

Glad to hear back from you! It sounds like you could still use some support, and I'm happy to continue helping. After reading more about verification codes, and how you can retrieve one to sign in, were you able to retrieve a verification code to sign in? Were you able to complete your purchase(s) in Bag on our website? If you continue to have issues signing in to your Apple ID account, due to not being able to receive a verification code, you will need to request account recovery: Recover your Apple ID when you can’t reset your password - Apple Support.

Tell me more about what you mean by your iPhone will not update the certificate store trust. Is this an alert you are seeing when trying to take a specific action via your iPhone 7 Plus? Are you connected to cellular data, personal Wi-Fi network, or a VPN? Is this issue present no matter what network you are connected to? I'll need as many details as you can share, to continue to assist.

Also, you mentioned having "some serious issues." Can you tell me more specifically about these other issues, and I will do my best to help out with those, too.

Talk to you soon!

Ok that makes sense since I hate being signed in to cloud and very rarely r. On second issue it’s when I get to apple.com on menu bar at top all way to right, the shopping bag. At the very bottom of the drop down is sign in. I can sign in using my Apple ID of course and go to any link in that same drop down except 1, my account. I am then ask to sign n again. Just wondering bc I have iPhone 7plus that’s supposedly running 12.2 but WILL NOT update my certificate store trust. I’m having some serious issues and it is but small one in my overall pic. Thank u much for ur time.

Hi Jeremy so did u receive my private msg? If so I havent heard back and I completly understand but please shoot me yes or no so I'll know how to proceed. 1st let me clarify something on the above verification codes. What I'm referring to is Two Factor Authentication. When I don't receive code and I try to resend every how many times I want and still nothing I am given option to try another way. I can have text sent to my phone and proceed to wherever I was going. I am just concerned of where the code sent originally is going bc its not to my phone which is same phone that gets text with 6 numbers to verify myself 20 seconds after missing the original. 2nd the certificate trust setting apparently doesn't update along side iOS. I have just updated to 12.3 and still no change in trust cert. Thank u for ur time.

Hey there timsnel52,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. Based on the details you provided, it sounds like you are not receiving a verification code to sign in using your Apple ID, and a concern about what you are signing into. I can certainly understand how important it is to address both of these questions, and can help provide you more guidance.

To address the verification code concern first, the code is sent to any trusted devices that are signed in to the same Apple ID account currently. If you are not signed in to your Apple ID in iCloud on a device, you will not receive a code to that device, and you will not see it listed as being signed in to your Apple ID account. If you are using two-step verification you'll find this article helpful: If you can't sign in with two-step verification using your Apple ID - Apple Support. If you are using two-factor authentication, then you'll want to use this article for more help instead: Two-factor authentication for Apple ID - Apple Support.

Regarding what you are signing into, I have a few questions to help me better understand your concern there. Are you referring to visiting our website, Apple and signing in to shop on our website? Can you elaborate further on what you mean by you cannot see your account once signed in there under Bag?

I look forward to hearing back from you.
