Hi...
I have selected all the emails in one of my inboxes totally 50 emails. However, when I hit the delete button it asks me "Are you sure you want to delete 1, 928 messages?
I've never seen this happen. It also happens on my other email accounts.
I looked in my trash bin for that same account thinking they may be there but there are only 130 messages.
Can anyone advise me?

So if I rebuilding my mailboxes the emails would come from my server right? I've cleared some of those already thinking that, that was the problem. I'm also noticing (as I'm deleted individual emails rather than selecting a group) that they are deleting normally without the pop up window claiming more messages. Could it also have to do with the date of the emails?

Okay I understand thank you for your information. I did happen to back-up to Time Machine last week so I have all of the data in the event that I do loose some messages in re-building.

Rebuild that Mailbox, or all Mailboxes, according to Rebuild mailboxes in Mail on Mac - Apple Support.
Rebuilding the Mailboxes re-creates the index for each individual Mailbox, as well as the data folder that maintains all of them. That action itself does not cause messages to be re-downloaded from your email server, which is a function of the particular email service you use.
It would be a good idea to create a backup (Time Machine or the equivalent), not that it has anything to do with this particular concern though. If you are asking because you are concerned rebuilding a Mailbox might cause some messages to become lost, it's likely they were corrupted to begin with and wouldn't be retrievable anyway.
Message times and dates are used in the context of indexing messages but the dates themselves are of no consequence... unless of course they contain corrupted or malformed data that Mail can't decipher.
You can rebuild any Mailbox including the Trash for each one.
