Safari not respoding to mouse

Hey guys,

I am having an issue with safari, no problem to execute the application, the issue starts when i try to click the browser buttons (backpage, fowardpage, tabs button, searchbar even the window buttons are not working) funny thing is that the browser does respond to the keyboard.

When i click on the safari window it makes this alert sound called "funk"(like the windows exclamation sound).

I tried resintalling MacOs but the problem persisted. To me it seems like somehow the mouse function got "locked".

Any ideas about this?

Go to Safari Preferences/Extensions and turn all extensions off. Quit/reopen Safari and test. If okay, turn the extensions on one by one until you figure out what extension is causing the problem.

I would uninstall Bitdefender. It tends to interfere with the computer's operation while providing minimal to no benefit unless you work with Windows files. Most long time posters recommend not using antivirus software or cleaning software such as CleanMyMac. They can adversely affect normal computer operation.

Is this only happening in Safari?

Restart the computer holding down the command - option/alt - P - R keys before the gray screen appears. Continue to hold until you hear the startup chime for the second time. You may need to do this 2-3 times.

 Reset NVRAM/PRAM

Try a SMC reset. The article covers when this is required, but doing this will not affect anything.

As i mentioned before most of safari options are greyed out, including preferences. The issue actually happened before installing Bitdefender still i will take that into consideration.

Since i created another admin user and that session safari was working properly, I decided to copy the safari app and paste it in a folder inside the user having the issue. Same problem different app(hoping what i've done makes sense since as far as i know macos apps contain all the app files inside the app)

So I came to the conclusion that the problem is with the user profile instead of safari.

Thank you for the help Eric.

I ended up formating and re-installing.

Actually yes, it is just happening in safari. The worst part of it is that most of the browser options like: preferences are greyed out, so there is no way to clear browsing history, disable extensions and all that.

I will give it a try with your method.

Not quite sure if this issue is related to the fact that i haven been messing around with the keyboard shortcuts. This issue really looks like a config issue.

You may  have adware/malware installed. Try downloading this program which was written by Thomas R, a long time poster. The program will search for malware/adware The program will do the work for you which makes it easy. It may be necessary to run more than one scan. After running the scans, restart the computer.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. Please post back on whether or not this worked. Also try the Safe Mode. Please post back on whether or not this worked.
