Simple way to fax from my Mac?

I feel like I'm in a time machine, but I have two insurance companies I deal with that occasionally require me to fax stuff in. I don't have a fax machine or a direct phone line I can access.

So, is there a cheap and easy way to send a fax from my Mac, i.e., a PDF or Word doc? I've done some searching and most solutions are subscription services which is way overkill for the 2-3 times a year that I need to do this.

Any ideas that are quick and easy?

I found a good solution, using a website vs. using an app.

Wirecutter recommends faxzero, which lets you fax up to a 3-page doc for free, or $1.99 for a larger one. You pay with PayPal so it's secure. I used the paid option and it worked great.
