CarPlay freezes and quits

CarPlay freezes and sometimes just quits, then thinks my iPhone is an iPad or doesn’t think any device is connected. I have a 2018 Nissan Kicks. Nissan says it’s an Apple problem.

Test it with another iPhone if you can. It's unlikely this is an issue with the phone, however, unless you're also having other issues with your phone.

It may also be the cable. Use the lightning cable that came with your phone or another genuine Apple cable.

If it fails in the same way with another phone, the issue is with the head unit in your car. It may be to be re-flashed or replaced.

This certainly is not typical behavior in any CarPlay compatible system I've used.

I've tried all these things as well. I have the same problem with my iPhone X on 2 cars - Ford Edge and Honda Civic. Seems to have started after iOS 12.2.


Symptoms include: music stops playing, and sometimes restarts; map updates freeze and sometimes resume. If CarPlay is locked up long enough (1 to 2 minutes or so), then it crashes completely and disconnects from the car's infotainment system.
