Music in iTunes

When I got my first iPhone (4S), I spent hours copying my CD's to iTunes. All music then went onto the phone. However, when I switched to a iPhone 6, I didn't get all my music. And the same for my iPhone 8. So I am in the process of copying everything into iTunes again, and using my Mac Airbook. I want to get rid of my physical CD's after this process. How do I make sure the music stays with me - even after the physical copies will be gone?

When you import a CD with iTunes, it creates files on the computer that you used to do the import. Make sure that computer has a backup of those files on physical media (external drive) and/or in a cloud-based service. As long as you have that backup, you can always get copies of the files.
