Suddenly I have difficulty scrolling on the screen and when I received a phone call, the accept the call slider does not function.

I have an iPhone XSMX that I bought in Dec 2018. The software is iOS 12.2. Suddenly I have difficulty scrolling on the screen and when I received a phone call, the accept the call slider does not function. How do I reboot the phone (or whatever you call it) without loosing an data. It used to be holding down the button and pressing the on/off switch on the side. OR is this a problem with 12.2? I am not sure about the RESET functions in the settings GENERAL pane, they are confusing to me and do not seem to address my problem.

To do a forced restart (you will not lose your data) push and release the volume up button then push and release the volume down button then hold the side button until the Apple logo appears and release the button. If that does not fix your screen issue, and you don't have a screen protector on the iPhone, click on the Contact Support link at the top right of this page.
