Photos in Camera Roll are just black

I've noticed since the update that Camera Roll is now blacking out videos and pictures on my iPhone. When I go into the roll on the iPhone the place where pictures for wallpapers or pictures of nature or friends have no been replaced with just a black box. Now tapping the box to bring the picture full screen doesn't fix the problem. It just shows up black as well. I've tried pulling those pictures from the iPhone to my PC and again same deal. I've lost a ton of photos. I also noticed this isn't just a problem my 3GS is experiencing since the update. The iPhone 4 that was located in my local at&t store was also doing the same thing. Blacking out pictures that people had taken with the phone. Anyone have an idea on what this is or how to fix it?

I just fixed the problem... It's all about the new multi-tasking feature. The files are synced correctly, however you need to close the running album app by double-clicking the home button, holding the app's icon a few seconds and then hitting the red X button. Then when you go into the photo album, the pictures show up correctly!

Hope this helps

I have had variations on this whole photo syncing issue for weeks now and have had four genius bar visits with no luck so far. I had previously been shutting down my iPhone with every sync and when I start it back up the photos are in their proper places with no black boxes... but it's kind of annoying to shut down after each sync (I tend to sync once a day). I just attempted the "kill app" thing where I removed the Photos app from the multitasking tray after double-clicking the home button and then synced, and that seemed to work as well. It's only really a "temporary" solution I suppose, and Apple really needs to figure this out so they can issue an update ASAP... it'd be much appreciated.

OK, I JUST SOLVED THIS PROBLEM. I DID THE 4.1 UPDATE AND ALL MY PICS SHOWED UP AS BLACK SQUARES THAT WHEN TAPPED ON THEY APPEARED, BUT WHEN VIEWING THEM ALL AS A SET, THEY WERE BLACK. IF YOU ARE ON A MAC COMPUTER, GO TO THE "IMAGE CAPTURE" APPLICATION AND IMPORT ALL THE PHOTOS FROM YOUR PHONE ONTO YOUR COMPUTER INTO A FOLDER (WHICH I LABELED "iPhone Pics" AND THEN DELETE THEM ALL BY HAND FROM YOUR PHONE. THEN, GO UNDER THE IPHONE TAB IN ITUNES WHEN YOUR PHONE IS PLUGGED IN, AND GO TO PHOTOS, AND SYNC THAT FOLDER YOU JUST IMPORTED YOUR PICS TOO. THEN IT WORKS PERFECT, AND IT RESTORES IT TO WHAT IT SHOULD LOOK LIKE 🙂 HOPE THIS HELPS EVERYONE. AS FAR AS A PC GOES, JUST TRY AND GET YOUR PHOTOS ONTO YOUR COMPUTER ANYWAY YOU CAN, AND DELETE THEM AND RESYNC THAT FOLDER BACK ONTO THE PHONE.
