My Microsoft Word print preview window is unreadable

This is basically what happens when I click "Print..." in Microsoft Word. It's been like this for (honestly) years but is now becoming a real issue. Note that no numbers, whether typed or even copy-pasted, show in any of the fields and adjusting the page gives an unreadable preview window (as seen here.) However, I can copy-paste a page range, say 1-10, in the Page Range field and it'll print correctly, although I can't see what I'm typing or copy-paste and just have to trust it.

Sorry, I know you're trying to help, but this plan isn't going to work out. I spent almost an hour trying to get set up on an entirely new username in order to test it (my GOD does Apple make the process irritating), only to run into the fact that Word won't let me in under the new username without re-registering my product (which I no longer have the key or whatever for) online.

Yeah, it's been going on a while and I've just been ignoring it because I usually just hit print and print entire documents without making changes. But now I want to print front-to-back to save paper and also reduce a 307-page document down to a few bite-size print jobs for a variety of reasons. This is just so weird -- none of the problems I've seen other people have seem remotely connected to this issue, although it's probably true (what you're getting at) that it's basically a problem with an older Word not being optimized/updated, while my Mac is from 2016.
