Safari doesn't respond to clicks

I don't usually use Safari so I don't know if this is a new problem or if it always has been like that. Safari starts normally but when I try to click on it I just get the *beep* sound you get when you give invalid input. I can do some things using the keyboard, for example I can [tab] to get the address bar focused and enter an URL to open a website but I can't use my mouse to click on the address bar.

There is also no way to quit Safari without using a process manager. "Quit Safari" in the tool bar is grayed out, [cmd]+Q doesn't work, clicking on the red X of the window only *beep*s.

I already tried deleting the cache folder as proposed in a pretty old discussion.

Run  the latest release of Malwarebytes for Mac to remove malware/adware, if installed on your Mac.

For instructions:  Install Malwarebytes for Mac          Uninstall Malwarebytes for Mac

Click the “Scan Now” button. Once done, quit Malwarebytes for Mac.

Repeat the scan couple of times.

Restart the computer and relaunch Safari holding the shift key down.

If the above doesn't work, try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. Please post back on whether or not this worked. Also try the Safe Mode. Please post back on whether or not this worked.

Safe Mode - About

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor.  Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown. If the log won’t post, try posting it in Pastebin and provide a link in a reply        Pastebin
