Unable to use Touch ID with error "Canceled by another authentication"

I have run into an issue with touch ID for mobile accounts in macOS. This issue does not affect local accounts.

When trying to add a fingerprint, the error "Canceled by another authentication" appears.

This is affecting a few of my users, and I have tried the following:

  • Re-installation of macOS
  • User creates new keychain
  • Restarting in recovery mode and erasing all of the touch bar data

Has anyone experienced this issue with mobile accounts, and have you been able to find a solution?

Thank you for the reply.

The device is bound to Active Directory using Centrify. A mobile account is created on the device to create a home directory on the device for the AD user account.

The mobile account user was able to use fingerprint authentication through Touch ID, and then the fingerprint data was no longer present. When the user tries to re-input the fingerprint data, the error "Canceled by another authentication" is encountered.

Local accounts created on the device are able to setup fingerprint authentication within Touch ID.

The issue is still encountered in safe mode.

The steps in the stackexchange article were followed, but after recreating the keychain, the issue persists.

The SMC has been reset, but this did not resolve the issue.
