I was trying to delete one photo from an album of photos being used as a screensaver. I seem to have deleted the whole album. the folder and its contents are in my photos app, but when i select it in system preferences/screensaver, there is just blackness, no photos. and all my other choices of albums in screensaver pref are also missing. Every folder i select brings up a the same few photos from an irrelevant folder, or blackness.

Are you using iCloud Photos (Library)? Perhaps with "Optimize Mac Storage" enabled?
Then many of your Photos may not be available in the Media Browser, because they are only in iCloud.
I did all that. system photo library is greyed out in photos preferences/general.
it is in my pictures file.
i restarted.
but same problem.
in the main system preferences , the choices for screensaver photos does not include system photo library.
each folder has only a few unnecessary pix and not the ones i want.
i cannot find any of my newer photos in the system preferences desktop and screensaver options. Only in the photos app itself.
no external drives involved.
i do have a time machine backup... but don't want to erase all subsequent material by restoring to the older backup.
i'm not sure...how can i tell?
