Avoiding roads/streets in Map

I've been searching for this answer and am unable to find it.

I am looking to avoid certain streets while using navigation. iPhone has the option to avoid tolls and highways but I would like to avoid a street in my city that is almost always backed up. There are plenty of other routes to take. Maps doesn't always give the option of using a different route as it says sometimes.

Thanks!

Make sure you have traffic turned on In maps. IF there are enough drivers using maps in that area, it should pick up the traffic pattern and re-route you to a faster route if one is available.

You may also want to try different navigation apps like Waze, which uses crowdsourced traffic reports to select routes.

I'm not aware of any iOS navigation apps out there that will let you avoid specific roads (though I haven't really looked hard at Waze or Google Maps recently).

Detour can be added only while navigating

Use the Route Card

You can use the Route Card to find nearby places, like gas stations, food, and more.

To add a detour to a trip:

  1. Tap   while you're navigating to open the menu.
  2. Select an option, like Gas Stations. Maps will show you a list of nearby suggestions.
  3. Tap  Maps will add the detour to your original route.
  4. When you’re ready, tap the blue banner at the top of the screen to resume your route.

To get detailed turn-by-turn directions, swipe up on the menu while you're navigating and tap Details. You can also see your trip overview and adjust your Navigation Voice settings from the same menu bar.

If you paired your device to Bluetooth in your car, you can manage the Navigation Voice settings. Learn how to use Maps with Bluetooth.

You've just given the OP instructions on how to make a detour from their route to a gas station or restaurant. There's nothing in that information that explains how to avoid a specific road. Am I missing something?
