"Unrepairable" phone

Hi. About a month ago I woke up one morning to find my iPhone 6 wouldn't turn on. It was in near perfect condition and had been in a lifeproof case since it was bought and had no damage to it. I took it to apple and they did some tests and told me that the Logic Board was broken and it was unrepairable so i needed to buy a new phone.

Obviously this is what I did. My dad then took my old phone to a non-apple repairer and has had the phone repaired to perfect condition for $100. If i knew this was an option then i wouldnt have spent more than that on getting a new one.

Is there room for compensation from apple as they clearly said to me that my device was unrepairable and hence i bought an new one?

iPhone 6, iOS 12

No. Apple did not say that it was unrepairable. They said that they would not repair it. That is not the same as "unrepairable." They offered you an out of warranty replacement for about half price. Apple does not have the facilities in Apple stores to do other than very minor repairs on phones, and they don't have technicians in stores capable of doing other than minor repairs. Instead they replace the phone and send it to a central repair facility where it is refurbished by skilled technicians with sophisticated equipment.

Independent repairers can sometimes fix iPhones for less than Apple would charge for a replacement. You are free to use their services, but Apple takes no responsibility for their work. Just like your auto manufacturer takes no responsibility if you take your car to an independent auto repair, but you are free to do so.
