Messages No Longer Sync Properly After iPhone Upgrade

I have an iPad Air 2, Apple Watch 4, and now iPhone XS. Previous phone was iPhone X. iCloud Message sync is enabled. Before the upgrade, if I read a message (both iMessage and SMS) on one device, it would show as read on the others. Now only iMessages sync in this regards - if I read an SMS on my iPhone, it will still show unread on my iPad and watch. However, if I delete a message from my iPhone, it will delete on the iPad, BUT NOT THE WATCH (second issue that also needs assistance).

So far I’ve tried:

Logging out of iMessage on both the phone and iPad

Turning iMessage off and on again on iPhone and iPad

Logging out Apple ID on iPhone and iPad

Unpairing and repairing Apple Watch

Nothing seems to work - please help! Right now this upgrade is feeling like a major step backwards!

Hello again tHeReAlSnAkE,

Thanks for the update. I'm glad your sync issue is resolved now. In regards to your second issue, it's normal behavior for your watch and phone not to delete messages from both devices. Messages will only be removed on iPhone and iPad when they are deleted from one of those devices. The Apple Watch isn't included. I hope this helps.

Have a wonderful day!

Hello tHeReAlSnAkE,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities! I understand your messages aren't syncing properly across all of your devices. I'm happy to assist you with this issue.

First let's make sure all of your devices are updated:

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Update your Apple Watch

Next, let's verify this isn't just happening with specific contacts.

Also power all of your devices off and back on to see if it helps:

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

How to restart your Apple Watch

Best Regards.
