Onkyo TX-RZ730 receiver doesn’t recognize hdmi

When I connect the Apple TV in any of hdmi 2.2 that are in the back of the Receiver, the receiver doesn’t recognize the HDMI, but if I connect it in the front hdmi Aux imput, the receiver does accept the image in 4K but no HDR. All the cables, receiver and projector are new and 4K, hdr, etc with all the new technology. Any thoughts on this?

The HDMI port on the front of that model receiver is listed as supporting lesser video, so that is presumably an HDMI 1.4 port, while the ports on the back side are HDMI 2.0/HDCP2.2. That would explain the ‘no HDR’.

Page 163 in the Onkyo manual lists this for troubleshooting:

❏ No image from a device connected to HDMI IN jack

    • To display video from the connected player on the TV while the unit is in standby, you need to enable "5. Hardware" - "HDMI" - "HDMI Standby Through" in the Setup menu. For details of the HDMI Standby Through function, refer to "Setup Menu" - "5. Hardware" - "■ 1. HDMI".
    • To output video to a TV connected to the HDMI OUT SUB jack (for compatible models only), press Q on the remote controller to display "Quick Menu", and select "Other" - "HDMI Out". Then, select the HDMI OUT jack for output.
    • Check if "Resolution Error" is displayed on the main unit display when video input via HDMI IN jack is not displayed. In this case, the TV does not support the resolution of the video input from the player. Change the setting on the player.
    • Normal operation with an HDMI-DVI adapter is not guaranteed. In addition, video signals output from a PC are not guaranteed.
