iMac display increases brightness after sleep

I set my iMac display brightness to about 70% in Preferences. But each morning when it wakes up from sleep, it's set on max, and I have to turn it down on the keyboard. I've also unchecked "Automatically adjust brightness."

Any idea what's going on?

My iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017) reduces brightness after a few seconds of inactivity (not completely black, so no screen shutdown or screensaver). I don't think this is normal? Try resetting the NVRAM Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
