Keyboard Service Program - 4 years starting counting since...?

Dear Community,

I wanted to ask about Keyboard Service Program (I have MBP Pro 2017, non-touchbar model)

https://www.apple.com/support/keyboard-service-program-for-macbook-and-macbook-pro/

and focus on the very last sentence,

"The program covers eligible MacBook and MacBook Pro models for 4 years after the first retail sale of the unit."

am I understanding it correctly that my MBP Pro 2017 is eligible for this program 4 years after MBP Pro 2017 started selling in the retails? If so...and this information is available (I bought it only last Christmas), would you mind telling me when did an official retail sale start for this laptop?

Thanks.

Ryan

Hi Ryan_Briskie,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I see you have a question about the Keyboard Service Program for MacBook and MacBook Pro, and I'm glad to clarify. When you see "4 years after the first retail sale of the unit," that refers to the date the Mac was originally purchased from Apple rather than the launch date for the product.

I hope I've answered your question! Cheers.

My MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid-2015) is suffering from all the same problems, but isn't covered by the service program. I have to use an external keyboard now. It started with the "R" key not working... it wouldn't type the letter, and then it would type endless "R"s. Then the problem spread to the "T" and "E" keys. I tried everything to clean the keys, but that didn't really seem to be the issue. It seems to be a problem with the underlying electronics in that area of the keyboard.

This article perfectly describes the problem... https://www.wsj.com/graphics/apple-still-hasnt-fixed-its-macbook-keyboard-problem/
