Thank you, that’s what I was afraid of. Even in the days of flip phones your contacts could be saved to SIM cards. I know on androids you can also. I’m sure apple could figure out how to do it. I would love to hear there reason why they don’t. It’s unfortunate at I payed almost a thousand dollars to upgrade from a iPhone 5s to a 8 and then to find out you still can’t save contacts on SIM card and that they still can’t figure out how get a ir remote to work. My wife has used her android phones for at least 5 years to control the tv, cable, DVD player, media box. She makes fun of my choice in phones everytime I say “do you know where the remote is” Hopefully one day they make iPhones that can be more of a all in one device. Until then this will sadly be my last one. I said that five years ago too lol. Thank you for your kindness to answer my question.

In the age of smartphones, there is no point in saving contacts to a SIM. To begin with, the SIM has a very limited amount of storage space, not to mention the standard developed for storing contacts on a SIM decades ago does not allow for storage of all of the information contained in modern contact records. Why would you need to anyway? Sync them to a cloud service then just sync them down to whatever devices you want to.

As for IR, the iPhone doesn't have an IR transmitter. Never has. Very few Android phones do either.

If that's the bar you set for what kind of phone you will buy, I wish you luck.
