How do I get the Mail icon in the dock to give only the inbox number of msgs.?

All I want is for the red balloon on the dock to give the number of unread msgs.in Inbox. Last week the Mail icon red balloon started showing all msgs in Archive (now 11,365). Heretofore it showed only the number of Inbox unread msgs. Also, on the Mail page it shows these Archive numbers as well as all Sent mail since 2014 (9,765). I don't need or want these last numbers, perhaps pulled from my Google IMAP account (I'm told this is Mail's source). Please help.

From Mail>Preferences>General> toggle something different and then come back to the preference you want here:

You can drag the Mail icon off the Dock, and drag a new icon from the Applications folder to replace it.

Also from go to Mail > Mailbox > Synchronize> all Accounts.

If that doesn't help rebuild your mailbox: Rebuild mailboxes
