Wi-Fi slow to connect to any public network requiring a sign-in page

My iPhone is slow to connect to any public Wi-Fi network that requires a sign-in page: school, Google Starbucks, Barnes and Noble, library, etc. Takes one to two minutes. The network is fast and once I am on the network, it works well. Just getting connected is slow. This problem started in iOS 12.1 and is still an issue with 12.3. I switch my phone off each night and promptly install the latest app patches. I

force-close apps immediately after use.

My guess is that it takes exactly 30 seconds. try timing it. And read this Apple link for an explanation of how "captive" networks connect-->Use captive Wi-Fi networks on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

I have the same problem and it is driving me nuts. I was hoping it would be fixed after the latest software update but it is still taking ages for the public WiFi login screen to pop up - significantly longer than it used to and compared to others phones around me. Has there been a solution found?

Hi,

I still have the same problem (my first post was in reply to Mark), even after the most recent software update a few weeks ago. It is really frustrating to not be able to connect as quickly as I used to be able to.

Are you able to shed any light on the matter?

Thanks! Good description of "captive" networks. Connection takes a bit longer than 30 sec, more like 1-2 minutes. This issue is new since iOS 12.1. I wonder what else might be causing it.
