i had gotten an email with an apple heading wanting me to update or my icloud would be shut down. i did not do it because they wanted my info along with my social security number. So is thus really apple or a scam

Email wanting info saying my iCloud would be shut down if I didn’t take care of it. It didn’t seem legit it wanted my social security number! So I didn’t fill in info! Is this a scam or should I have filled it out?

It's a scam. Forward it to reportphishing@apple.com as an attachment and then delete it.

Apple will only ask customers for their SSN if they're setting up Apple Pay Cash.
