2016 Non-TouchBar Macbook Pro user. I am using clamshell mode with a vertical stand, but just wondering which side should actually be up for better ventilation.
The port side (with the vents), or the other side?

Air is drawn in through the sides and is exhausted out along the hinge across the back. This is also where the Wi-Fi antenna is located, so hinge-side UP will give best thermal AND Wi-Fi performance.

Yes, hinge side upward, which will mean Apple Logo upside down.
This orientation will slightly augment the airflow normally provided by the fan, which will likely come on at some point.

MacBook Pro has vents along the side and on the back.
If you are having issues—For thermal management you are limited to resetting the SMC https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295
so apple logo would be upside down then?
