After the iOS 12.3 update my iPhone X keeps disconnecting from CarPlay every few minutes.

Despite using different cables, different apps, restarting phone and car media centre, following the iOS 12.3 update two days ago, my iPhone X keeps disconnecting from CarPlay in my new Renault 2019 every few minutes when listening to the radio, using Maps etc. It is fine when playing music from the phone. I foresee that this can cause problems when navigating in the future but currently is simply just annoying and distracting having to touch the "radio" app button every time to reconnect.

Set up CarPlay

Follow these steps to get started:

  1. Make sure that you're in an area that supports CarPlay and that your car supports CarPlay.
  2. Start your car, then make sure that Siri is on.
  3. Connect your iPhone to your car:
    • If your car supports CarPlay via USB cable, plug your iPhone into the USB port in your car. The USB port might be labeled with a CarPlay icon or a smartphone icon.
    • If your car supports wireless CarPlay, press and hold the voice-command button on your steering wheel. Make sure that your stereo is in wireless or Bluetooth mode. Then on your iPhone, go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap Available cars, then select your car. Check your car manual for more information.

I eventually did a hard reboot of my phone and the problem stopped. I am very happy because it was really a safety issue. One thing is still happening though...after listening/replying to a WhatsApp message, the media system does not always go back to the radio function. However, this is still 80% better than it was!
