Changing SIM Card on iPhone 6

My iPhone with AT&T is fully paid and changed the SIM card for use in Spain and Portugal. Some reason with Cellular data on or WiFi on, I am unable to send/receive text messages, although I am able to browse internet. When I try to text someone either in Spain or US, the pop-up message says to enable the iMessage. Will someone please help me figure the texting? Thank you

Your iPhone has 2 different types of messages. You have SMS text messages which show as a green bubble and iMessage that shows as a blue bubble.

If you're having trouble with green SMS Text Messages, try restarting your iPhone, check you have a cellular signal for SMS messages. Check out https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT204065

If it's the blue iMessage you're having trouble with, I'd recommend restarting your iPhone as well, check the date & time is right.

When going to Settings > Messages > is iMessage turned on? Do you get an error message when trying to turn it on?
