Spotlight not working on iPad Pro 11-inch after iOS 12.3 update

I’ve worked on this for about a week on my own, and can’t get it fixed. My iPad Pro 11-inch (about a year old) upgraded to 12.3 just fine, but Spotlight won’t work. Pulling down on the main screen and searching for anything (type in a word to find a contact, or an app) provides no results. There are three random things listed there that Siri Search thinks I might like, but no search results come up.

I’ve turned off Siri Search, powered the device off, back on, turned search back on…

It’s very frustrating, as I have so many apps and contacts that I have to find them this way, rather than swiping and tapping a dozen times.

Any advice?

Here are the basics:

Use Search on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If these basics don't solve your issue, then here are two more things to do:

  • Force Restart the iPad as follows:
    • Press and quickly release the volume up button
    • Press and quickly release the volume down button
    • Press and hold the Power button until the iPad restarts
  • Be certain the iPad's storage is not full. Check Settings > General > iPad Storage and be certain you never have less than 10% of the iPad's storage free.
